Footnote 16 Adaptor addendum

Mirror neurons

At the end of the last century the mirror neuron was discovered from monkeys and humans. These neurons fire when its owner executes a particular behavior or when s/he observes other individuals to carry out the same behavior (even hearing the sound of the behavior seems enough). That is, a mirror neuron is a neuron connecting a particular behavior and a particular neural activity in an implementation. It is surprising that a particular behavior corresponds to a particular group of neurons, but at least logically that a particular behavior must correspond to a particular structure of the neural system. Such an adaptor must be the very connection between the effector and the neural system. Mirror neurons are reviewed by their discoverers: G. Rizzolatti and L. Craighero, “The mirror-neuron system,” Ann. Rev. Neurosci. 27 , 169 (2004).

Or

How do words refer to sensation?--- There does not seem to be any problem here; don’t we talk about sensations every day, and give them names? But how is the connexion between the name and the thing names set up?
